A busy St Patrick's Day weekend brings lots of equine fun
The rain keeps coming, but local equestrian competition keeps going!
Hello everyone,
St Patrick’s Day weekend proved to be a busy one and, with a four-day week this week, I managed to enjoy some quality time with my horse… I hope you did too!
Thankfully, I somehow managed to time my riding so that I stayed dry - how rare is that recently?! The rain has been almost incessant; I do hope we get a break from it soon…

This Horse&Field newsletter brings you recent results, news and dates to note! With so much going on at the moment, there will be more to follow…
The first point to note is that Eventing Ireland Northern Region has had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event that was due to be held at Tyrella this Saturday, March 23. Competitors will have been made aware of this already, but just mentioning this here, in case anyone was planning to go to spectate.
Portmore Equestrian Centre has had a busy schedule in recent weeks, as they held an RUAS Balmoral horse qualifier on St Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, which attracted some top quality entries.
The previous weekend, Portmore hosted the Ulster Region Pony Spring Tour, with ponies and riders keen to compete for the TRI-sponsored prizes!
Hagans Croft, Bailiesmills, held a dressage competition on St Patrick’s Day, with some very polished performances through the course of the day.
For those who prefer to challenge themselves with a bit of jumping, Connell Hill, Randalstown, held their latest Training Show on Saturday - these shows run from cross-poles and get a great turnout from around the country.
Meanwhile, the third week of the current league at Ecclesville, Fintona, was held on Friday night - entries remain strong, which only adds to the competition in the league!
The Ulster Region of Show Jumping Ireland celebrated a very successful 2023 recently with their annual dinner and awards night - just click on the link below to see more pictures and the list of award winners!
