Autumn has arrived, but competitions continue
Looking forward to another enjoyable weekend with our equine friends
Hi folks,
The weeks are flying by and the weather is getting more autumnal - suddenly, there is a definite nip in the air! For some of us horse owners that might mean putting horses out for a break after a busy summer season; for others, it means bringing horses in from the field, if we don’t have winter turnout.
It may also mean clipping and rugging and all the other things that the autumn-winter season brings! This can mean more work, but there is something satisfying about knowing your horse is well fed and cosy when it’s cold outside.

This Horse&Field newsletter reports on some more of last weekend’s equestrian events, as well as bringing you details of forthcoming activities and, of course, the calendar of events, which sees a shift from many of the showing and eventing competitions to hunt hacks, in preparation for the hunting season, with some dressage and show jumping now moving indoors.
If you haven’t decided as yet what to do with your horse this weekend, be sure to consider the Go As You Please at Lusk’s! This may be your last opportunity of the year to get your horse out for a little bit of cross-country fun.
The BHS is running Horse Health days, both for owners and for coaches, which sound like they will be worthwhile attending, if your schedule permits. These days are open to both members and non-members.
If you are planning ahead for your social calendar, then make sure you pencil in Down Royal’s Festival of Racing on November 3 and 4, with Ladies’ Day being held on Saturday, November 4, sponsored for the first time by premium soft drinks brand, bottlegreen. This is sure to be a fabulous weekend of racing and style!
The Horse&Field calendar lists local equine activities and is updated on a daily basis. We are trying to make the calendar as comprehensive as possible, so if you know of any events that aren’t yet listed, please let us know!
To new subscribers, welcome! You will receive this newsletter twice each week, as well as occasional emails in between - we want to keep you informed, but do not want to overload your inbox!
Please remember that Horse&Field will be updated on a regular basis and you can visit it at any time to find out what is happening. If you wish, you can download the Substack app; you can search online for: horseandfield.substack.com or, if you are subscribed, just click on the email.
