Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
Hello again,
The weather really has been trying to interfere with our equine activities, with the unseasonal rain and ground conditions especially impacting on the eventing fraternity, with the unfortunate cancellations of Northern Region events at Glenpatrick and Loughanmore. However, we horsey people are warriors and many shows have battled on, despite the downpours!
After another busy weekend, here is the latest Horse&Field newsletter, bringing you local results, as well as diary dates and previews of forthcoming shows.
I hope you have had a chance to go onto the page and figure out how it works… Click on a story and it will open to show the full article, results and pics; click on the Horse&Field logo and it will take you to the home page, where the calendar is pinned (so it’s easily found!), with the most recent stories appearing first. You can scroll down to find the story you want or just have a browse to see what else is there! Please do have a read and feel free to ‘like’ or leave comments, as the benefit of this platform is that it can be interactive!
To new subscribers, welcome! You will receive this newsletter twice each week, as well as occasional emails in between - we want to keep you informed, but do not want to overload your inbox!
Remember that Horse&Field will be updated on a regular basis and you can visit it at any time to find out what is happening. If you wish, you can download the Substack app; you can search online for: horseandfield.substack.com or, if you are subscribed, just click on the email.
If you have any contributions, queries or suggestions, please do send an email to horseandfield@gmail.com
Enjoy!
In the news
There has been lots going on in the equestrian world, both at home and abroad, over the weekend, with many local riders celebrating their successes at all levels!
We have ventured to include a few video clips on the page, this time from Dublin Horse Show and Antrim Show - hopefully you will agree that this adds another positive dimension to Horse&Field!
The Irish underage teams have been in the headlines lately, with their impressive run of success at European Championships. There were more medals to add to the haul at the weekend, with Gary Marshall’s Irish Pony Show Jumping Team winning gold for the second year in a row and team members, Reape and Dore, also claiming the individual gold and bronze medals respectively - incredible!
Meanwhile, the Irish Pony Eventing Team secured a place on the podium when claiming the bronze medal at the FEI European Championships for Ponies in Le Mans, France. Co. Down girl and Northern Region member, Molly O’Connor made her international debut as part of the squad - well done to Molly and all her team-mates!
Antrim Show held a wonderful range of equestrian classes, with someone to suit everyone, from Lead Rein to Grand Prix!
With many of us turning our attention to Dublin Horse Show, which takes place next week, a couple of video clips from Leo Larkin’s archives were a welcome addition!
Hagans Croft held the final of their dressage league, with competitors turning out in fine style to ride down the centre line.
Strule Valley Riding Club held the finale of their Annual Summer Show Jumping League, with competitors doing their best to win some of the generous prizes that were on offer!
Meanwhile, at the same venue, Ecclesville Centre held their own Summer Show and had the benefit of being able to run indoors due to the inclement weather. This gave competitors the opportunity to give their best over the challenging course.
Please do visit Horse&Field to read other stories with local connections!
Thank you for your kind words!
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Loving this new site!
