Charlotte takes Supreme title at Ballymena Show
A great day out for competitors and spectators alike
Ballymena Show was held at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Saturday, May 31, with the usual wide variety of agricultural and equestrian classes and trade stands. Spectators certainly had plenty to entertain them on the day, particularly those with an interest in horses and ponies, with classes to suit all.
There was a good turnout across the ridden hunter classes, which catered for a range of weights, as well as ladies’, smalls and Irish Draughts. The champion ridden hunter title was awarded to Ben Rainey on ‘Brymars Universal Time’, who had previously won the Lightweight Mare or Gelding aged five and over, while the reserve title went to Eva Lowry on ‘Lynaira Tigers Eye’, the winner of the Small Ridden Hunter four-year-old and over class. Meanwhile, Ian McCluggage rode ‘Clonfad Webb’ to win the cob class and take the championship.

Working Hunter classes ran from 80cm up to 1m class, with the championship going to Gavin Dollard on ‘Honey Breeze’, winner of both the 90cm and 1m classes. The reserve went to Katie Lee Houston on ‘Muckno Magic’, the runner-up in the 1m class.
The Clydesdale championship was won by Sandra Henderson with ‘Croaghmore Daisy’, winner of the Three-year-old Gelding/Yeld mare class, while the One-year-old Colt/Gelding/Filly class winner, John Cross with ‘Castletown Carla’ took reserve.
There were some lovely ponies in attendance at the show, with Alia Massey Fletcher and ‘Carersennog Topaz’ winning the Open First Ridden class and the Riding Pony Championship. Meanwhile, Susan Stokesberry’s ‘Sweetwall Zoe’ won both the Show Hunter Pony classes and took that championship.
Working Hunter Pony classes catered for Tiny Tots up to 80cm and the championship reflected both ends of that spectrum! Frederick Brown on ‘Idyllic Tyranny’ won the Tiny Tots 30cm class and claimed the champion title, with reserve going to 80cm winner, Caitlin Weatherup on ‘Showtime Cruise’.
There were a selection of Native Breed classes for ponies, as well as Family Pony classes. The Family Pony Championship was awarded to Charlotte Morton on ‘Brynodyn Robbie’, winner of the Family Pony Lead Rein class; with reserve going to Alice Gregg on Barramoor Mash, who won the Family Pony Ridden class.
The finale of the show was the Supreme Championship, with this coveted title going to Charlotte Morton on ‘Brynodyn Robbie’. Reserve Supreme went to Lindsay Martin on ‘Meadowspring’, with Second Reserve Supreme going to Ian McCluggage on ‘Clonfad Webb’.
Well done to all those who competed on the day!
