Edna and 'Thunder' storm into first place at Hagans Croft
Saturday, November 18 saw the second leg of Hagans Croft’s five-week dressage league, with the day starting out with the Intro class and a British Dressage test being ridden.
Competitors found the test more difficult this week, with some 10 metre circles being asked of competitors, along with giving and retaking the reins, also three-loop serpentines. Competitors were aware that judge Coreen Abernethy was looking for and marking on horse and rider’s balance, bend, size and shape of circles and loops.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
This was not a problem for Edna and 'Thunder', who were the only pairing to achieve a score of 70% or above, 71.3% to be precise. Last week, Edna and 'Thunder' placed third within the Intro class, which Edna said was so unexpected, therefore she was delighted to say the least with first place!
The Newcomers class saw Georgia Linehan and 'Karma is my Middle Name' take the win with 69.58%, followed by Olivia McKeown and 'Spud' in second place with 69.38%.
Sarah Turley and 'Ronaldo' took the top spot for a second week in a row in the Prelim class, scoring 74%. This has set the pair up well for league placings at this early stage. Mandy Blakely and Dean Salmon finished on the same score of 70.25%, however, Mandy and 'Frankie' grasped onto second place, with a higher collective mark score, leaving Dean and 'Seana' in third place.
A whisker could have separated first and second places within the Novice class. Taking the win, Andrew Napier and 'Elsa' saluted to 66.92%, followed by Bernadette Curry and 'Teo's Chance' in second place with 66.35%.
The Elementary and Medium classes saw two competitors take on the challenge in each class. It was great to see such lovely tests ridden at this level. Jo McKelvie and 'Peri' took the win in the Elementary with 65.2% and Jazmin Vollands and 'Mo Chara Nua' took the win in the Medium class with 71.82%. Jazmin was left with such lovely comments from judge Coreen Abernethy: 'A well prepared, well ridden test. Correct paces, balanced work with nice self carriage throughout’. Very well done to both horse and rider!
Hagans Croft would like to thank everyone who supported the second leg of their five-week Dressage League. Thank you to the judge Coreen Abernethy, scribe Katie and to Black Horse Photography for covering the event. All photographs can be viewed and purchased from Black Horse Photography's website.
