Hello everyone,
Somehow, we find ourselves midway through February! Time is flying by, but the positive side of that is we should soon see brighter evenings, a bit of growth in the grass and hedgerows around us and, hopefully, a firming up of the ground… and a bit less mud! Well, we can hope…!

In terms of equine activities, it’s a sure sign that Spring is on its way when the Flexi Eventing draws to a close (February 24), which means that the annual two-phase event held by Eventing Ireland Northern Region will not be too far away (March 9)! Then, not only will the eventing season start, but the show season will also get underway, with ‘pre-season’ shows initially, before the main events. Have a look through the Horse&Field calendar to get an idea of what’s on and, if you know of something that isn’t yet listed, please do let us know!
Once again, there was a multitude of equine activities taking place over the weekend, including show jumping, arena eventing and dressage and this Horse&Field newsletter brings you reports, results and pictures from those local activities, as well as details of forthcoming activities and news items.
Connell Hill held another of their Training Shows on Saturday, which provided a perfect schooling opportunity - and this was taken up by a number of well-known competitors and producers, who brought multiple horses for a run out.
Competition is certainly hotting up at the Flexi Eventing Series at The Meadows, Lurgan, as the fifth leg took place on Saturday - it’s all to play for at the final this weekend!
Portmore held a registered horse show on Sunday, with some impressive rounds being jumped.
Down Royal Racecourse is looking forward to its St Patrick’s Day race meeting on March 17, which is sponsored by well-known feed manufacturer, Bluegrass Horse Feed.
There is also news on advances in equine endocrinology and on the National Equine Forum, which may be of interest.
More details on these and more are available by clicking on the stories below or visiting Horse&Field and having a scroll through!
The Horse&Field calendar lists local equine activities and is updated on a daily basis. We are trying to make the calendar as comprehensive as possible and currently lists shows and events right up until September, so if you know of any events that aren’t yet listed, please let us know!
To new subscribers, welcome! You will receive this newsletter twice each week, as well as occasional emails in between - we want to keep you informed, but do not want to overload your inbox!
