Busy Bank Holiday weekend provides plenty of equestrian activity
Hello everyone,
What a fantastic selection of equestrian competitions went on locally last weekend! There really was something to suit everyone, from beginner show jumpers to dressage riders; from eventers to those preparing for next week’s Balmoral Show, competitors were out in force making the most of the Bank Holiday weekend with their equine friends.

Jack's Show a great success
Jack’s Show was held by Kyle and Samantha Hayes at Castle Irvine, Necarne on Saturday, May 4, in aid of Craigavon Area Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and hosted dressage and show jumping classes in the beautiful surroundings of the Rose Garden and walled garden respectively.
First class ground for Annual May Day Show at Lusk Equestrian
For at least 10 years, Lusk Equestrian have secured the date of May Day Monday for their annual pre-Balmoral working hunter and showing show. The showing is normally held on grass, but owing to the wet winter and spring, Lusk took the decision (last week) to host everything on the all-weather sand arenas.
Another full house for the final Tyrella Event of 2024
The Eventing Season, North and South, got off to a delayed start because of the adverse weather, with only two of the three scheduled events at Tyrella taking place. There was genuine sadness on Saturday evening, as Northern Region bade farewell to Tyrella for 2024 after two amazing events, plus the Two-Phase and record entries of almost 900.
Jump Mix Cash Dash begins at Hagans Croft Equestrian
Saturday, May 4 saw the start of three weeks of Jump Mix Cash Dash events at Hagans Croft Equestrian. The course consisted of a mixture of coloured and rustic fences, where competitors jumped fences one to eight and then fences nine to 12 were timed. Competitors on form at Connell Hill SJI Spring League
Connell Hill, Randalstown held another leg of their SJI registered Spring League on Thursday, May 2, with classes running from 80cm right up to 1.30m. Competitors travelled from far and wide to compete and some very impressive rounds of jumping were witnessed.
