Eventing excitement at Gransha
Impressive performances from competitors in two- and three-phase classes
Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below
The sun finally came out and so did 51 horses and riders to take part in Gransha’s popular Two- and Three-Phase event on Thursday, July 13. The Junior riders were particularly impressive, with a number bravely competing in their first Three-Phase event, with Charlotte Muir taking home the first red rosette of the day in the 50cm class, with Em-J Crawford in second place, Grace Jackson third and Annie Crawford a well deserved fourth.
In the 70cm class, it was Poppy McIlduff who claimed victory in the Three-Phase with gorgeous new pony ‘Highburren Cameron’, followed by Izzy Stout on ‘Naomi’, who scored the best dressage score of the day in the 70cm class.
Adrienne Stuart’s innovative cross-country course started to challenge riders in the 80cm class! Out of the 15 Junior and Senior riders, only one Amy Steele and ‘Big Adventure’ kept their head and went clear! Erin Doherty on ‘Consider It Dun’ put in a brilliant performance to take first place in the 80cm Junior Three-Phase and Karina McVeigh was victorious in the Three-Phase Seniors.
The 90cm Three-Phase Senior was highly competitive between Emily Morris on ‘Buddy’ and Amy Harvey on ‘Indian Robe’. Both riders rode lovely rounds over the show jumps but Emily’s beautiful dressage gave her a five-point advantage going into cross-country. Emily Morris narrowly took the win, despite a very unlucky pole in the cross-country phase with only 1.33 penalty points separating the two riders! Well done Emily and Amy!
Junior rider Eva McGimpsey claimed victory in the 90cm Two-Phase (Dressage and Show Jumping) and Emily Jayne McPolin won the Senior Two-Phase (Dressage and Cross-country).
Bernadette Curry rode super clear rounds to win the 1m Two-Phase (SJ and XC) and Jenny McCurry bravely steered ‘Maximus’ around the 1m courses to win the Two-Phase (SJ and XC).
Well done to all competitors and organisers hope you had an enjoyable, confidence-building day!
