Saturday, October 21 saw the penultimate week of Hagans Croft’s Working Hunter league and NIF Qualifiers. With few horse entries, the morning session was short and sweet; there were no entries in the 60cm class, but it was a winning day for Louise Reid and her grey Connemara 'Bertie' in the 70cm class.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
Marina Stewart and 'Troy' were out again on top form in the 80cm and 90cm classes, placing first and then going on to be awarded Champion Horse on the day. Meanwhile, Kerry Magill won the 1m class and was awarded Reserve Champion horse with her mount 'Cruz'. Admittedly, judge David Kirkpatrick said he could take either 'Troy' or 'Cruz' home - now that is a compliment!

The afternoon session saw the ponies descend onto Hagans Croft, where there was a good number of entries within each class, making stiff competition all round.
With only four out of nine competitors jumping clear in the 60cm class, it was down to who performed the best ridden show, with scores being awarded for manners and performance in show, tack and turnout and conformation and movement. First place was awarded to Julia Kerr and 'Cheerna' and second place to Charlotte Gray and 'Tabby'; both girls were delighted that they had an opportunity to ride in the championship show.

Again, there were nine competitors in the 70cm class; this time five competitors managed to jump around the course of nine fences with a clear score board. Finishing on an overall score of 94/100, Ellie Murphy and 'Bronheulog Harvey' placed first. What an achievement for this pair’s debut at Hagans Croft! Organisers certainly look forward to what the future holds.
Second place went to Lauren O'Rourke and 'Prince'. This runner up position has set Lauren and 'Prince' up well for league placings, which will be decided at the final next week, Saturday, October 28.
It was then on to the 80cm pony class, where Emily Turley scored a perfect 10 for 'Style of the rider' within the jumping phase of the competition, finishing on an overall score of 93/100 after their ridden show. Emily and 'Budore Mystic Legend' placed first in this class. It was second place for Cormac Murtagh and 'Shanaghy Star', who then went on to place first in a very strong 90cm class, with the pair then going on to be awarded Champion Pony on the day. It was their gallop that stole the show!

Second in the 90cm class went to Laura McMaw and 'Dunross Ocean Mist'; the pair were delighted to get an opportunity within the championship show.
Hagans Croft was delighted to see Katie McKee back at this venue and on board her new pony, 'Noah'. The pair have certainly struck off on the right hoof, winning the 1m class and then going on to take the title of Reserve Pony Champion on the day. Katie and 'Noah's' future together certainly looks bright. Well done!
