Great camaraderie and sportsmanship at Hagans Croft Jump Mix
Final approaches with rosettes and prizes for qualified combinations
Saturday, September 23 saw the penultimate leg of Hagans Croft’s Jump Mix League. Next Saturday, competitors will be in for a real treat, as the league reaches its final, with rosettes and prizes galore for those who have competed in three weeks out of the four. To keep competitors up to date with league placings, all information is available on Hagans Croft’s website.
Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
It was great to see a total of eight competitors take on the cross-poles class, with the youngest competitor being only four years old! What super riders and super ponies - they are certainly going to be stars in the future!
The 40cm class is a new class added to the league, due to special request; both competitors entered, jumped the course exceptionally well and were full of confidence, especially when they received their rosettes for all their efforts.
The 50cm class saw the competition start to hot up, as the second half of the course, fences nine to 12 are timed. For the second week in a row, Alex Hemsley and 'Angel' took the win and Rachel Stranney took second place on 'Snowy'.
Again the top placings remained the same for a second week in the 60cm class, with Victoria McCurdy-White and 'Temple Bui' in first place and Lauren O'Rourke and 'Prince' in second place.
There were a good few new faces within the 70cm class this week. It has been a while since Hagans Croft saw Claire Dobbin and 'Louie' compete at this venue, however they were back and on top form. The pair took all the turns the course had to offer within the speed section, finishing clear across the course in a speedy time of 29.31 seconds, a whole 10 seconds ahead of everyone else, therefore well deserving of first place! Molly Piper and 'Cluainin Bliss' rode a solid round, clear all the way in a time of 39.91 seconds to take second place.
It was then on to the 80cm class, where three friends Karina, Keren and Claire, battled it out for the top spot. Cheering each other on, especially as they took the turns and accelerated around and over the speed section of the course, the camaraderie and sportsmanship between them all was great fun. However, taking the win on the day was Karina McVeigh riding 'Cococabana' with a time of 29.27 seconds, followed by Keren Martin and 'Imari' in second place with 29.56 seconds! A hair’s whisker could have separated them. Third place went to Claire MacKay on 'Crannard King of Hearts'.
As there were no entries for the 1m and 1.10m classes, the 90cm class was the last of the day. Caitlin Trainor and 'Zara' had first place in their sights; they were the only combination to achieve a double clear and therefore cantered home with the red rosette. Second place went to Sarah Jayne Trainor riding 'Chelsea Rose' - the pair jumped the course with ease, but just had an unfortunate pole down, nevertheless a nice second place rosette went their way! Well done to both sisters.
Hagans Croft would like to thank everyone who supported the third leg of their four-week Jump Mix League. Thank you to the stewards, who kept the event running so smoothly and to John from Black Horse Photography for covering the event.
