Happy faces and happy horses at RDA Charity Ride
Shane's Castle provided the perfect backdrop for riders and their horses
What a day was had on Sunday, September 15 at the RDA East Antrim Charity Ride at Shane’s Castle. The weather was kind, the sun shone on lots of very happy faces and, of course, happy horses. Organisers could not have asked for a better venue and extend their gratitude to Lord O’Neill, who so kindly permitted the use of his wonderful estate, Shane’s Castle.
Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
A successful day such as this cannot happen without a lot of hard work and thanks go to Judith Watt and her team of volunteers from East Antrim RDA, from the marshals out on course to the welcome team, both in the car park and registration.
On the riders’ return, after checking back in, they were welcomed into the Cafe for coffee, tea and scones, kindly provided by Jackson’s, Ballynure and sponsored by NFU Mutual. It was a lovely atmosphere for all, whilst they discovered the treats in store within their fabulous goodie bags. Thanks to Hy Equestrian, Bailey’s Horse Feeds and Leucillin.
Supportive riders have learnt over the years that RDA run a super day and are always amazed by their generous ballot. Organisers are most grateful to their sponsors of the ballot, who provided vouchers: Clonkeen Equestrian Supplies, Doagh Farm Feeds, Old Mill Saddlery, Clare Vets, Greenmount Stores, Knockagh View Equestrian, Equine Performance Soloutions, The Hatch at GGC, Pots of Pleasure and Abode Coffee shops. Ian McCluggage IM Equestrian and Christine McBride, who provided vouchers for private lessons and Healy’s Haylage, who provided a lovely rug.
All of the money raised from the ride finances the East Antrim RDA group to run for the year ahead. Without these funds, they would not be able to support the kids from Hillcroft and Thornfield Schools, who join the group on Mondays throughout their school year at Laurelview Equestrian Centre.
They are also delighted that they have been nominated by Cash for Kids, as one of their charities and, if you haven’t already donated, please click on this link to support them in their valuable work to enhance the lives of the children who attend the RDA group:
