Saturday, April 12 saw the third leg of the Hagans Croft Equestrian five-week Working Hunter league and Northern Ireland Festival qualifiers. With 19 classes on offer, starting at cross-poles up to 1m with two arenas, one on grass and one on sand, there is something for everyone whether riders would like to qualify for the NIF or not - everyone is welcome.
The field arena classes started at 10am with the cross-poles to 70cm classes. With each competitor finishing on a clear jumping round, it made for a good championship, where one of the youngest competitors - Sophie McKibben and 'Skippy' were awarded 'Champion' and Julia Kerr and 'Tyssul Quartz' were awarded Reserve Champion. Congratulations girls!

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
The horse classes started at 11am and competitors were out early walking the course of nine fences and planning out their set show, which was to be performed in front of judge Nicola Martin. The first class on the schedule was the 60cm class, where Leah Chambers took the win on 'Dixie' and went on to win the 70cm class also. This secured them a place in the championship.
Not much separated the top three competitors in the 80cm class - with all three finishing on a clear jumping score, it was down to marks allocated within the set show. Out on top was Sarah Moore and 'The Newtown Babe', with second place awarded to Amy Robinson and 'Cherry'.
Jessica Mulgrew took the win in the 85cm Small Hunter class with 'SJ Figaro' and went into the championship, impressing the judge with their foot-perfect performance to be awarded Champion Horse on the day. Marina Stewart and 'Troy' won the 90cm class and went on to be awarded Reserve Champion on the day. Congratulations!
Jayne Moore and Craig Hills took on the 1m horse class, with both horses and riders jumping the course with talent aplenty. Jayne came out on top, finishing on a superb score of 95.5/100 with her horse 'Tia'. Well done!
After the lunch break, the pony classes were next on the schedule, starting with the 60cm class. Rosalie Wells was delighted with 'Blackertor Burlington Bertie's' performance, as they achieved a beautiful clear round and a red rosette for their efforts. It was second place for Julia Kerr and 'Tyssul Quartz' in the 60cm, which was enough to get them into the Championship at the end of the 1m class, where the pair were awarded Reserve Champion Pony on the day. That was two Reserve Champion rosettes Julia and 'Tyssul Quartz' won on the day! This will have gave them the confidence they need to head forward to compete at Balmoral.
Winner of the 70cm class was Taylor-Lee Doyle and her new mare 'Lady Valley', this is a great start for this new partnership and we cannot wait to see what the future holds. There was stiff competition in the 80cm class, with all six competitors completing the course of nine fences clear. Therefore, it was down to the marks achieved within the ridden show. Once again, Taylor-Lee Doyle took the win on 'Lady Valley', followed by Claire Mackay and 'Crannard King of Hearts' in second.

There were no entries for the 90cm class, therefore it was on to the 1m class, where Jessica Mulgrew took the win on her second mount of the day 'Knockagarron Emperor'. This win secured them a place in the Championship, where they took home the accolade of Champion Pony! That was Champion Horse and Champion Pony rosettes for both animals on the day! Congratulations Jessica!
