Latest equine update from mounted games to show jumping
Something to scroll through when the weather's at its worst
Hello everyone,
Well, here we are with the latest update on recent equestrian activities… When the weather is as wet and miserable as it has been this week, it is just the time to sit down and have a scroll and see whose name or picture you recognise!
We start this instalment with a fantastic article on 16-year-old Harry McMillan from Maghaberry, who has just returned from a Pony Club trip to Australia, where he was on the WINNING Mounted Games team from Great Britain! Read more by clicking on the link below.
The TRI Inter-Schools’ show jumping league has now concluded for another year, with results from the final and the overall league, as well as some great action pictures. The Meadows also held a Cash Back Christmas Cracker Show, with some fantastic pictures from Tori O’Connor.
After a change of location this year, the Saintfield Christmas Charity Ride was held in Downpatrick and had the benefit of parking at Downpatrick Racecourse - there are some lovely festive photos!
If you are interested in finding out more about equine tendon and ligament injuries, then read the article from the Equine Veterinary Journal.
And, in general local news, and in the seasonal spirit of giving, the Society of St Vincent de Paul launched its local Annual Appeal with an evening of song.
This Horse&Field newsletter brings you the reports, results and photos from these events, as well as details of forthcoming activities and the calendar of events. There are also a few more general local news stories that may be of interest.
More details on all of these and more are available by clicking on the stories below or visiting Horse&Field and having a scroll through!
Weather permitting, this weekend sees a great variety of activities taking place, but with the huge amount of rainfall this week, it’s probably advisable to ring before you set off to ensure things are going ahead.
The Horse&Field calendar lists local equine activities and is updated on a daily basis. We are trying to make the calendar as comprehensive as possible, so if you know of any events that aren’t yet listed, please let us know!
To new subscribers, welcome! You will receive this newsletter twice each week, as well as occasional emails in between - we want to keep you informed, but do not want to overload your inbox!
Please remember that Horse&Field will be updated on a regular basis and you can visit it at any time to find out what is happening. If you wish, you can download the Substack app; you can search online for: horseandfield.substack.com or, if you are subscribed, just click on the email.
If you have any articles or photos to contribute, queries or suggestions, or if there is someone you think deserves to be featured in Horse&Field, please do send an email to horseandfield@gmail.com
Have a great weekend!
