Lily and ‘Fireman’ all set for European Pony Championships
Fermanagh girl selected to represent Ireland at Sentower Park
Fermanagh girl, Lily Tunney, who is 14 years old, has been selected to represent Ireland at the European Pony Championships at Sentower Park in Belgium on July 22nd - 28th.
Lily and her pony ‘Fireman’, a 14-year-old gelding, have been in top form this season. On their last outing to The Future Champions CSIOP in Hagen, Germany, the duo were on the winning Irish Pony Team, where Lily and ‘Fireman's’ double clear helped secure the gold medal for Ireland.
This was followed by the pair taking the top spot in the CSIOP Grand Prix, which was the second time they have won this top accolade, having won the same Grand Prix 12 months previously.
Lily took over the reins on ‘Fireman’ three years ago from fellow Ulster rider Niamh McEvoy. They have been building on their relationship ever since, gaining experience at both National and International shows.
‘Fireman’ is a very special pony and Lily has worked hard, alongside her father and trainer Gabriel Tunney, to get to this point.
To make the European Irish Pony Team has been Lily’s goal this year and she is absolutely delighted to be part of it. She is so proud of her pony ‘Fireman’ and is looking forward to the Championships!
The SJI Ulster Region Pony Committee would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Lily on her fantastic achievements so far this year and would like to wish Lily and her fellow Irish Pony Team members the very best of luck!
