Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
Dublin Horse Show’s national show jumping classes bring out the cream of the talent across the island, from 128 ponies right up to horses jumping 1.40m. This year was no different and, no doubt, some of the younger athletes will be worth watching as they progress in their equestrian careers - perhaps some will be back jumping in the international classes at some stage!
Local rider Niamh McEvoy had an amazing show in Dublin, excelling in international classes, as well as national classes. Among her numerous successes, Niamh won the Four-year-old ‘Mo Chroi’ National Championship.
Another rider who proved his talent was Michael Roche, who again had great success in the four-year-old classes.
The Clarke family from Cavan also had a good show, with Camryn third in a Young Rider (1.35-1.40m) class and young Chloe unphased by the surroundings to place second in a 128cm Ponies Six- and Seven-year-old class.
Our homegrown Amateur riders also had a good show, with a number of them being placed in the initial classes and Caitriona Cody claiming second in the Amateur National Championship, while Lisa Patterson placed fifth.
The full results may be found here, but the top eight in each class are listed below.
