Lucy doubles up at Connell Hill
SJI Horse Summer League sees Lucy Morton win both the 1.10m and 1.20m classes
The SJI Horse Summer League continued at Connell Hill, Randalstown on Thursday, June 12, with classes running from 80cm up to 1.30m. Competitors made the most of a dry day to jump round a well-built track on the super surface in the centre’s outdoor arena.
The day belonged to Lucy Morton, who is on a winning streak at present and added Connell Hill’s 1.10m and 1.20m classes to her recent tally! Lucy rode the seven-year-old bay gelding ‘Seapatrick Clarimo’ in both classes. By ‘Clarimo’ and out of ‘Roundthorn Delaney’ (by ‘Clinton’), the horse was bred by Michael McCann and is owned by Mya McDowell.

Lucy actually claimed a one-two in the 1.10m class, taking the runner-up spot with Patrick Talbot’s ‘Drumcairne’. Ian Moore was just nudged from his usual top spot, but took third place with ‘Triple C’ and fourth with ‘Pinecroft Lamiro’.
Runner-up spot in the 1.20m class went to Jodie Creighton riding Leanne Marshall’s ‘GHS Corriana’, with Christopher Smyth taking third with Samuel J Smyth’s ‘Ballylurgan Hold Up’.
The 1.30m class saw the win going to Paul Caves on his own ‘Quality Night’, ahead of Shannon Mackenzie on her own ‘Cadeau De Bo Z’ in second and Kathryn Morton on Joanne Morton’s ‘Creevyquinn Bella’ in third, while Tegan White McMorrow rode her own ‘Ballinamurra Sunflight’ into fourth place.
Nine combinations managed to jump double clear in the 1m class, while four remained clear over the 90cm track and just one horse and rider jumped without faults in the 80cm class.
SJI horse jumping continues at the Randalstown venue on Thursday, June 19, while an Unregistered Show jumping Training Show is scheduled for Saturday, June 21.
