Lucy takes SJI top spot at Connell Hill
Lucy Hanna and ‘Rock Biltmore’ won the 1.30m class at Randalstown venue
Thursday, May 29 saw another round of the SJI Summer Horse League being held at Connell Hill, Randalstown, with classes from 80cm up to 1.30m. Once again there were some impressive combinations in attendance and some super rounds of jumping being completed.
While Thursday morning started clear, the lunchtime drizzle made no impact on the riders’ spirits as competitors topped up on high energy and anticipation to compete in the Summer League series, with a clever mix of courses and show jumps built by course designer Mr William Crean, adjudicated by experienced SJI Judge Mrs Denise Withers.
Only three combinations took on the 1.30m class, with the finishing order seeing Lucy Hanna in the top spot with her own seven-year-old ‘Rock Biltmore’. Mary Ellen Rice was next best on board another seven-year-old Mary Treasa Curtis’s ‘Bono La Vito’; Kenneth Graham and his own ‘Lenamore Hey Boy’ took third.

While there were no double clears in the 80cm class, there were several across the 90cm and 1m classes. Ian Moore made the 1.10m class his own, taking a one-two with ‘Triple C’ and ‘Pinecroft Galaxy’ respectively, while Christopher Smyth secured third place with Samuel J Smyth’s ‘Ballylurgan Hold Up’.
The 1.20m class saw Kenneth Graham take the win on board his own six-year-old, ‘Lenamore Hey Boy’, followed by Tegan White McMorrow in second place with her own seven-year-old ‘Ballinamurra Sunflight’ and Lesley Jones rode Yvonne Pearson’s ‘Cairnview Redwood Guy’ into third.
