Lurgan Park is the place to be on Saturday, June 7! This beautiful venue has always been one of the nicest settings in the Northern Ireland agricultural show calendar, and the Equestrian committee are delighted to once again welcome horses and ponies from across the north and south of Ireland to their 113th show!
Equestrian section secretary Ros Ewing is looking forward to seeing familiar faces and hopefully some new ones: “Entries are strong across all classes again this year - we are hoping for the usual sunshine, a good day of competition and most of all, a bit of craic!”
Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
It will certainly be a busy day, with over 100 classes over five rings.
Ring 1 will be home to the ridden hunters, side-saddle and racehorse to riding horse classes. The show is delighted to have two very experienced judges from England: Michelle Underwood and Emma Green doing the honours there.
Ring 2 has all the usual Mountain and Moorland classes, both in-hand and ridden, and will be expertly judged by local pony producer and IPS judge, Desna Lewis.
Pony breeding in-hand classes start proceedings in ring 3, followed by ridden show and show hunter ponies, plus the very popular family pony classes. The lady to impress here is Joan Boyd, a longtime judge and competitor on the pony scene.
In the working hunter ring, Raymond Caldwell will build his usual inviting course for ponies, horses and M&Ms to try their luck over, under the watchful eyes of legendary horseman, Richard Iggulden and his co-judge, Jess Whitney.
Meanwhile, in ring 5, horses and youngstock in-hand, Connemara ponies, Shetlands and miniature horses, should keep another English lady, Julia Ryde Rogers on her toes all day. Julia is a well-known judge and coach across the water and is very much looking forward to her first visit to Lurgan Show. This ring will also host Maurice Coleman and Clare Ryan, who have been selected to judge the prestigious RDS Dublin Horse Show Breeders’ Championship qualifiers for foals at foot suitable for show jumping and eventing disciplines.

With seven ISA young horse, mare and foal and Connemara qualifiers, in addition to the range of classes on offer, Lurgan Show really does have something for everyone and promises to be a fantastic horsey day out!
Entries close on Saturday, May 31 at midnight and can be made online at: https://www.itsplainsailing.com/org/lurganshow
