Lusk's the ideal venue for Arena Eventing
Young riders and Amateurs come to the fore across the classes
Jenny and Harold Lusk started the innovation of Arena Eventing, calling it Garden Eventing. Lusk Equestrian is an ideal venue with the large all-weather arena, combined with the adjacent fields to include the water complex, originally designed by the late great Tommy Brennan and known as ‘Brennan’s Brooke’.
There were 15 fences in the arena, combining show jumping fences and natural cross-country, hedges, bank and the modern obsession of skinny obstacles. After the arena section, with a time allowed eight fences followed, including water over all-weather and grass, all in pristine conditions for the day.

The clear rounds came in again for a jump off against the clock in the arena.
The 1m class only had one clear in both phases. Victoria Mullen on Dr Karen King’s eye-catching grey gelding ‘Ralph’ took home the first prize, while in the 85cm and 70cm classes, there were a number to jump off for the awards.
Local cousins, Anna and Zara Reid, had a great day with dads running photographing the action from the sideline to watch Anna take the top spot in the 70cm, while Zara was fourth in the 1m and second in the 85cm.
Ruth Cousins won the 85cm class and placed third and fourth in the 70cm class, showing that, at Lusk’s, the young riders and Amateurs are coming to the fore.
The next event at Lusk Equestrian is the Hallowe’en Derby on October 27 - so put it in your diary! Then four weeks of Dressage, entries to Sarah on 07840 117132.
