Mary Ellen on winning form at Connell Hill
SJI Summer Horse League continues at Randalstown venue
Connell Hill Equestrian Centre in Randalstown once again attracted some of the top show jumping talent from around the country to their SJI Horse Summer League last Thursday.
The highlight of the day was the 1.30m class, which many aspire to compete in. Mary Ellen Rice not only competed, but won the class riding Mary Treasa Curtis’s ‘Bono La Vito’, just pipping Ben Walsh on board Ronan McLaughlin’s ‘Zenith Vd Donkhoeve Z’ to the post by a mere 0.2 seconds! JP McGranaghan rode his own ‘Killeenan Ted’ into third place.

In the 1.20m class, it was a home win for Jodie Creighton riding Robbie Topping’s ‘Triple G’, ahead of Ian Moore and his own ‘Pinecroft Lamiro’ in second and Ben Walsh claiming another top placing with Ronan McLaughlin’s ‘Zenith Vd Donkhoeve Z’ in third.
The 1.10m class belonged to the owner-riders, with the ever-consistent Ian Moore taking the win on his own ‘Pinecroft Galaxy’ and second place with his own ‘Pinecroft Lamiro’. Third place went to Elle Moore on her own ‘Reagan’.
Nine combinations shared the win by jumping double clear in the 1m class, with just two clear rounds in the 90cm class and only one in the 80cm.
