May Day Jump Mix at Lusk's
By popular demand, Lisburn venue put on a competition to aid in preparations for Balmoral Show
Lusk Equestrian held a Jump Mix event on May Day, Monday, May 5, in place of their annual May Day Show, which had been on that date for over 15 years. The May Day Show always provided preparation of Working Hunter and showing classes for the upcoming RUAS Balmoral Show.
The Northern Ireland Festival at Cavan, for which Lusk’s had run Qualifiers for a number of years, decided in their wisdom to capture the dates from Friday to Sunday preceding May Day Monday, which resulted in Equestrian sport losing an annual event at Lusk’s.

Numerous people telephoned Sarah and Jenny to voice their disappointment that their annual show was not going ahead and persuaded them to run a competition, in preparation for those entered at Balmoral the following week.
The Jump Mix consisted of three show jumps, followed by 13 working hunter/ derby-type fences, including the bank and the double of water ditches, which got fantastic compliments on the day.
The fences were all beautifully decorated and dressed with trees, greenery and flowers, which gave the horses something to look at. Clear rounds were hard to come by throughout the day, with no one single fence causing problems, but clears were at a premium.
Harold and Jenny thanked Sarah for all her hard work and organising it at short notice; thanks also to Denise Withers, the judge; Fran Warden, who called all competitors to the arena and the arena party.
Schooling continues at Lusk’s to facilitate all those going to Balmoral, please call or text Jenny on 07831 661428 to book a slot.
Please keep checking Facebook for show jumping dates.
