McEntee claims Grand Prix glory at Portmore
Three days of show jumping talent on display at Winter Championships
Show jumpers from around the country made their way to Aghalee, Co Armagh over the weekend of November 29 to December 1 for the three-day Portmore Winter Championships.
On Friday, classes ran from 90cm up to 1.30m, while on Saturday, there were classes from 90cm up to 1.10m, plus a very well-supported 1.20m Accumulator and a 1.30m Mini Grand Prix for the more adventurous. Sunday’s schedule saw a 90cm Two-phase class, followed by championship classes from 1m to 1.20m plus a 1.35m Grand Prix.

The 1.20m Accumulator on Saturday saw Suzanne Posnett take the red ribbon on board Pamela Posnett’s ‘Maxim Van Overis Z’, ahead of Michael Roche riding Cormac McElroy’s ‘Avas Leap’.
Dermott Lennon took the top spot in the 1.30m Mini Grand Prix with Stacey Watling’s ‘Amazing Alf Z’, while Sean Foley secured the runner-up position with Victoria Loane’s Lord of the Rings BMH.
Girl power dominated Sunday’s Championship classes, with Ruth Will riding Margaret Horan’s ‘Burst of Classe’ to win the 1m championship, followed by Sophie McKeen on Ian Moore’s ‘Pinecroft Kamiro’.
The 1.10m championship went to Danni Jennings on her own ‘Super Star’, with second place going to Emma Blair riding John Blair’s ‘Toyboy Z’.

Katie McEntee took the honours in the 1.20m championship with Sandra Duffy/ Ireland Horse Sport & Leisure Ltd’s ‘Magnifique’, with Sophie Dunn close behind with Brian McConville’s ‘BWE Caprice Semilly’.
John McEntee did his best to redress the balance by winning the 1.35m Grand Prix on board Sandra Duffy/ Ireland Horse Sport & Leisure Ltd’s ‘CSF Andrew’, closely followed by Tori Dunn on Patrick O'Donoghue’s ‘BP Maestro’.
During the course of the show, a retirement ceremony was held to honour Suzanne Posnett’s prolific mare Karmijn, who is stepping back from competition at the grand age of 32!
