New Year show sees top competition at Portmore

Two days of impressive show jumping from talented combinations

Portmore Equestrian Centre, Aghalee held their two-day New Year Horse Show over the weekend of January 27 and 28. Classes ran from 80cm on both days, with Saturday’s highlight being a 1.25m Mini Grand Prix, which was won by Jonathan Smyth riding Gillian Kerr’s Deloughtane Matoaka, with runner up spot going to Hannah Blakely and Lougherne After Dark, owned by Jane Allen Collins.

The main event on Sunday was a 1.30m Grand Prix, in which Katie McEntee steered Gerry Marron’s Kinmar Bespoke into pole position, followed by Gortacar Stables’s Gortacar Suspicious Minds 005, ridden by Jodie Creighton in second place.

It is a credit to these talented riders and their mounts to be winning classes at this level so early in the season!

Caroline Gaston and ‘Miss Roman Kora’ won the 1.10m class on the Saturday of Portmore’s two-day show.

Don’t forget that Portmore continues to hold Training Shows every Tuesday evening from 7pm, with classes from 70cm up to 1.20m. Entries taken at the show.
