Ponies take up the challenge at Banbridge Charity Horse and Pony Show
Super turnout and top-class jumping make for a good day out at The Meadows
There was an amazing turnout of ponies all set to take their turn in the rings at day two of Banbridge Charity Horse and Pony Show, which included the TRI Pony Tour on Sunday, June 8. The horses had set the standard the previous day and had thrown down the gauntlet to the ponies and the Children on Horses to take up the challenge. And that they did!
Pony classes started at 128 50cm, with 10 ponies and riders jumping clear, while in the 60cm class, a super 15 combinations kept all the fences intact. 128 70cm competitors went better again, with 17 managing clear rounds, with 16 doing so in the 80cm class.

The 128 85cm Under 10s class was, as always, a fast and furious contest and Tim Morton on his mum Joanne’s ‘Parkhills Jackbequick’ certainly was quick and claimed the top prize. Tim was followed by Louie O’Keeffe riding Adrian O’Keeffe’s ‘Antigua Aoibheann’.
Tim did the double, also winning the 128 90cm class with ‘Parkhills Jackbequick’, this time ahead of Caitie McEvoy riding Martin McEvoy’s ‘Dutch Lady’. Meanwhile, the 128 1m class was won by Anna Rose Garrity on board Michael Garrity’s ‘Boreton Cherokee’, with Caitie McEvoy the runner-up again, this time riding Martin McEvoy’s ‘Tynnan Tuttle Pip’.
It was then on to the 138 classes, with eight combinations dividing the 80cm class and nine jumping clear in the 90cm class. The 138 1m class was won by Miley Rouke on Mandy Johnston’s ‘Two Socks Id’, with Ellie Bingham placing second on Ashley Bingham’s ‘Currabawn Prada’, while the 138 1.10m class win went to Cliodhna McEvoy with Martin McEvoy’s ‘Kenza G.A’, followed by Serena Brown on Roslyn Brown’s ‘Lyra Lady’ in second place.
There were five clear combinations in the 148 80cm class and the same number over the 90cm track, while eight pairs jumped clear in the 148 1m class.
Josephine Nell took the 148 1.10m win riding Ann Galvin’s ‘Blueoak Shelby’, with Adam Adair on Sparkling Equine’s ‘Sparkling Avalon Radisson’ in second place. Josephine was on a roll and also won the 1.20m class, this time riding Ann Galvin’s ‘Luitta’, ahead of Abbie-Rose McGeady on board Lisa McGeady’s ‘Robyn’s April Song’.
A 70cm newcomer class was head for 138 and 148 riders, with four combinations completing clear rounds.
The Children on Horses 1m class saw a number of combinations jump clear to share the win, while in the 1.10m/1.20m class, Juliana Nelson rode Danielle Logan’s ‘Demero’ into first place, followed by Megan Hannaway on Aimee McKenna’s ‘Aimee's Diamond’ in second.
