Pony athletes on form at Connell SJI Pony show

Registered show welcomes pony competitors alongside the horses

Last Thursday at Connell Hill, Randalstown saw the SJI show welcome ponies as well as horses, with classes running from 128 70cm up to 148 1.20m, allowing these young athletes an opportunity for a midweek run out.

Ross Will was on form in the 128 70cm and 80cm classes, winning with ‘Rocco ACS Brook’ and ‘Westmount Double Dip’ respectively, both owned by Ruth Will.

The 138 glory belonged to Zac Hanna, who jumped clear in the 90cm class with both ‘Cynbrook Heiress’ and ‘Highburren Cameron’, both owned by Nicole Galbraith, and then took a one-two in the metre class in the same order!

Sarah Pike rode Lynda Pike’s ‘Blueoak Bay Breeze’ to win the 148 90cm class and went on to share the win in the 148 1m class with Emily Maneely on board David Leslie Maneely’s ‘Shanvey Doonard Delight’.

The 148 1.10m class was won by Arielle Allen riding Joanne Sloan Allen’s ‘Marchesi Gem Stone’, followed by Emily Maneely on ‘Shanvey Doonard Delight’ in second.

Zoe Mellett owned the 148 1.20m class, taking the win with Martin Mellett’s ‘Josefina’ and the runner-up spot with Sparkling Equine and Martin Mellett’s ‘Creevagh Melody’.

Connell Hill will hold another SJI show on Thursday, April 17, hosting both horse and pony classes.
