Posnett claims Portmore Grand Prix win
Seamus Kane Memorial Show a great success at Aghalee venue
The Seamus Kane Memorial Show was held over three days at Portmore Equestrian Centre, Aghalee last weekend, running from Friday, September 6 until Sunday, September 8.
Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
Friday saw classes running from 80cm up to 1.30m, with the 1m class proving very popular and many competitors achieving clear rounds. Helen Pearson-Murray and her own ‘It's Partytime Coco’ came out on top in the 1.10m class, while the 1.20m class saw victory going to Oliver Doherty riding Neal Doherty’s ‘CBI Cassandra’. Perhaps more familiar in eventing circles, Jim Newsam showed his versatility by winning the 1.30m class with Carole Hawthorne’s ‘Tullybee Louie’ (ISH).
Saturday’s classes also started at 80cm, but ran up to a 1.25m Mini Grand Prix. A number of competitors jumped clear over the 80cm course, while the 90cm class was won by Caitlin O'Kane with her own ‘Freyas Girl’. Sophie McKeen rode Ian Moore’s ‘Pinecroft Kamiro’ to win the 1m class, with April McCrea and her own ‘Bob’ (GCSL) claiming the top spot in the 1.10m class.
The 1.15m class was won by Alyson Henry’s ‘Caugherty Ronan’, with Kevin Mackey in the saddle, while Lisa Priestley and her own ‘Derryinver Premier Sarah’ rode into first place in the 1.25m Mini Grand Prix to conclude day two of the show.
Sunday commenced with the 90cm class, followed by the 1m class, which both saw a number of competitors jumping clear and sharing first place. The 1.10m class was won by Jayne Bright’s ‘Charlie Roux Blue Z’, with Gracie Bright on board and Zara-Jane Kelly rode Rachelle Harding’s ‘King Diamond’ to win the 1.20m class.
The highlight of the weekend’s events was the 1.30m Grand Prix, with the winner taking home the Seamus Kane Memorial Cup. Competition was fierce, with participants keen to claim the win. Suzanne Posnett proved the worthy winner on the day, riding Pamela Posnett’s ‘Maxim Van Overis Z’. Suzanne also placed third with Pamela’s Foesuela. These two were separated by Conor McEneaney riding Linda Fahey’s ‘Ups Angelo’.
All at Portmore would like to thank all the sponsors who supported the various classes, as well as all the competitors for taking part and those who helped out over the course of the weekend.
Competitions continue at Portmore with their Tuesday night Training Shows, as well as SJI Horse Shows on Sundays.
