Red ribbon for Darcy at The Meadows
Darcy Fehnert and ‘Mexx Van Het Groene Dak’ won the 1.30m SJI class at Lurgan venue
The Meadows Equestrian Centre, Lurgan, held another of their Spring/Summer Horse Shows on Saturday, May 31, with registered horse classes running from 80cm up to 1.30m.
The 1.30m class saw 17 go to post, with 11 of them jumping double clear. Darcy Fehnert and her own ‘Mexx Van Het Groene Dak’ secured the red ribbon in a time of 37.34, over a second ahead of runner-up Jaymie Crawford on his own ‘Crystal Ben Magna’ in 38.40. Andrew Farren and his own seven-year-old ‘Nevada Te’ finished third in 38.72.

Just two competitors managed to jump double clear in the 80cm class, while 10 combinations shared the spoils in the 90cm class. There were 30 starters in the 1m class, with 14 of them keeping all the poles in place.
There was some impressive jumping in the 1.10m class, with 27 of the 47 on the start list jumping double clear rounds. Ellie McDowell came out on top with Colin McDowell’s ‘Vanderbitt’ in a very fast time of 34.44, followed by Shane McCloskey riding Liam McCloskey’s six-year-old ‘Clonterm Lorenzo’ into second place in 35.22, while Lucy Sullivan and her own ‘Brackenstown Billy’ placed third in 35.39.
Of the 29 starters in the 1.20m class, 18 jumped double clear, with the fastest of those being Shane McCloskey, who took the win with Declan Brennan’s six-year-old ‘Miss Communicate’ in a time of 33.47. Melissa McKee bagged the runner-up position with Robert McKee’s ‘Diamond Beach Babe’ (34.61); with Ellie McDowell back on the podium with Colin McDowell’s ‘Vanderbitt’ in third (35.04).
This weekend sees Banbridge Charity Horse and Pony Show being held at The Meadows, with horse classes being held on Saturday and pony classes on Sunday. Unregistered jumping will run in Arena 3 on Saturday.
