Horse and pony competitors take on Working Hunter, ridden and in-hand classes at Comber venue

Ardnacashel Equestrian, Comber, held their now annual Air Ambulance Show on Saturday, April 12, hosting a huge number of classes to suit horses and ponies, whether their preference is Working Hunter, ridden or in-hand! All those who took part helped to support the vital services of Air Ambulance NI.

Working Hunter horse classes ran from 70cm up to 1.10m with some very impressive combinations taking on the challenging course. Ben Rainey got a very good day off to a great start here, when winning the 1m class with ‘Dowdstown PJ’ and going on to take the Working Hunter Horse Championship, with the Reserve title going to 70cm class winner, Tracey Manson with ‘Dunraven Cleo’.

Ben Rainey took home multiple ribbons from Ardnacashel’s Air Ambulance Show, including the Horse Working Hunter Championship with ‘Dowdstown PJ’ and the Riding Horse class and Championship with ‘Myles’ (pictured).

The Working Hunter pony classes started with assisted and unassisted cross-poles and ran up to 1m, with a separate championship for the ‘mini’ classes, which was won by Clara Rose Huddleson and ‘Dandy’, with Elissa Cowan on ‘Janala My Tom’ in reserve.

The main pony championship went to 80cm M&M Large Breed winner, Emma Jackson on ‘Cassie’, with reserve going to 70cm Connemara class winner, Lesley Jones on ‘Carnakilly Monarch’.

The show horses were next on the schedule, with a full complement of classes including Irish Draught, Hunter weight classes, smalls and ladies’ hunter. The Hunter Championship was claimed by Rachel Moore on Middle/ Heavy weight class winner ‘Drumlane Golden Boy’, with Ben Rainey on his Irish Draught class winner, ‘Dowdstown PJ’.

Rachel Moore won the next championship too, this time with Four-Year-Old Show Horse winner, ‘Lass Dance’. The reserve title went to Lauren McGlennon and her newcomer class winner ‘Pendley Fleurie Star’.

Lauren McGlennon and ‘Pendley Fleurie Star’ won the Newcomers showing class and took Reserve Champion at Ardnacashel’s Air Ambulance Show.

The Ridden Horse Championship went to Ben Rainey, with his Riding Horse class winner, ‘Myles’, with reserve going to Coloured Horse winner, Elle Coffey on ‘Lets Get Jiggy’.

The Show Ponies saw the Native Championship going to Lesley Jones on Ridden Connemara class winner ‘Carnakilly Monarch’, with runner-up Chloe Rooney on ‘Fairyhill Markle’ taking the reserve title.

Chloe Rooney and ‘Fairyhill Markle’ won the 90cm Open M&M Large Breed Pony Working Hunter class, was runner-up in the Ridden Connemara class and was named Reserve Champion at Ardnacashel’s Air Ambulance Show.

The ‘Mini’ Championship was won by Tiny Tots Lead Rein Pony class winner Clara Rose Huddleson on ‘Dandy’, M&M Lead Rein Pony winner, Clara Corrie on ‘Buddy’ in reserve.

There was a good selection of in-hand classes too, with the Youngstock Championship being presented to Potential Hunter class winner Davy Lyons with ‘Arizona’, while Connemara winner Sandra Somerville with ‘Glenellen's Rebel’ taking reserve.

The In-Hand Championship went to Cob class winner, Patrick McCready with ‘Boey Black Betty’, with reserve going to the class runner-up, Megan McQuat with ‘Moorestown Braveheart

This Saturday at Ardnacashel sees Easter show jumping being held at the Comber venue, with a Pre-Balmoral Show scheduled for Saturday, April 26, while the next few Wednesday evenings will see show jumping training shows being held.
