Spring Showing Show success for Causeway and Glens club
Horses and ponies impress at RDA Causeway Coast Arena
Causeway and Glens Riding Club ran a very successful spring showing show on Sunday, April 6 at RDA Causeway Coast Arena, Coleraine. Liz Payne kindly gave her time to judge, starting the day with the horse section.
Andrea Browne with ‘Akasaka’ took the first win of the day in the riding horse class, with Susan Stokesberry in second on ‘Amiro Dawn’. The veteran class was won by Kim Murphy with the handsome ‘Teddy’, followed by Alice Hill with ‘Max’ in second. Molly McFarland took over the reins to take a red rosette in the family horse/cob class with ‘Max’.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
The maxi cob class was won by Ryan Stewart with the lovely ‘Randalstown Rigsby’. In next were the heavyweight cobs and it was Cherie McHugh who took the win on the beautifully turned out ‘Mr Alsorts’, with Rosella Hagan in second on ‘Hollyrock Copper Jack’.
Chloe Connon took a well-deserved win in the Small Hunter class with ‘Edengore Daisy’, a beautiful liver chestnut by ‘Moylough Legacy’, followed by Caitlin Weatherup with the lovely grey ‘Showtime Cruise’ in second.
The ridden hunters saw Simon Carson in the top spot with ‘Kootenay Bay’, followed by Kathryn Knox with ‘Springvale O’Grady’ in second place. Emma Gaston with ‘Executive Decision’ took the win in the racehorse to riding horse, the last class in the horse section.
The championship was fantastic, a tense atmosphere with the standard of horse in the arena being so high, but it Chloe Connon with her beautiful ‘Edengore Daisy’ who took champion and Chloe’s sister, Cherie McHugh in reserve with the handsome ‘Mr Alsorts’.
The pony section was as busy and Liz started the afternoon with the lead rein pony class, where Cherie McHugh had quickly returned from her success in the horse championship to lead Brylei Gallagher to a win with the immaculately turned out ‘Colandra Meant To Be’. Second place went to Alia Fletcher with her pony ‘Dougie’.
The lead rein family ponies saw Stella Quigley with ‘Bubba’ taking home the red rosette and Alisha McCann with ‘Ziggy’ in second place. Alia was back in the ring on ‘Topaz’, this time taking the win in the first ridden class. Chloe Connon took a well-deserved win in the intermediate pony class with ‘Captain Moonlight’ and Tianna Brolly with ‘Loughview Aria’ in second.
The show hunter pony class was hotly contested, but it was Kjerstin Chissel with ‘Littlebyrom Limited Edition’ who impressed, taking the top spot and in second was Caitlin Weatherup with ‘Showtime Cruise’. Malia Lindsay and her much-loved ‘Casper’ took home the red rosette in the family pony class, followed by Coralie Brolly with ‘Linsort Sonny Boy’ in second.
Kjerstin Chissel and ‘Littlebyrom Limited Edition’ had their second win of the day in the veteran pony class. The M&M ridden pony class was one of the biggest classes of the day and was won by Amy Robinson on her Connemara pony ‘Woodhaven Hudson Bay’, with Anna Quigley in second place on ‘Beno Bubbalouie’. The Under 16s Connemara pony class saw Caitlin Weatherup take the win, this time on ‘Sternberg’s Lovely Lorraine’ and in second place was Faith Lindsay with ‘Sweetwall Zoe’ by ‘Gevaudan’.
The next class saw another beautiful Connemara by ‘Gevaudan’ taking the win in the Over 16s section, this time Sammy Workman with the beautiful ‘Loguestown Irish Cream’ and in second place Leah Hanson with ‘Shadow’s Hulk’.
The pony championship was another tough call for judge Liz Payne, but it was Kjerstin Chissel with ‘Littlebyrom Limited Edition’ who was crowned champion and, in reserve, Brylei Gallagher with ‘Colandra Meant To Be’.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who supported this show and all who helped on the day. A thank you to the team at RDA Causeway Coast Arena, who had the surfaces prepared and arena in top condition for the day.
