Storm Éowyn created havoc... but some equine activities were able to run
Local reports, results and photos from equestrian activities, despite storm
Hi folks,
In ways, it seems much longer than a week since Storm Éowyn blew in and created havoc across this island… Being without electricity, internet and, in some cases also without phone signal or water, certainly affects one’s ability to do many of the things we take for granted these days! When there are animals that depend on you, there’s no option but to find a way to get them fed and watered and mucked out - even if it’s by torchlight… Although, when a cuppa is required, a camping stove seems painfully slow compared to the kettle (but, I hasten to add, thank goodness for the camping stove!).
Once again, there were some equine activities cancelled last weekend, mainly due to power cuts and road closures, with fallen trees and telegraph poles a common theme throughout the country. However, some venues were able to run, much to the delight of competitors who were able to get there, and I am equally delighted to share their reports, results and photos here.

This Horse&Field newsletter brings you the latest equine news, as well as reports, results and pictures from local competitions and events over the past week or so, including week one of the dressage league at Ardnacashel; week three of the Flexi Eventing Series at The Meadows; a New Year Dressage day at Knockagh View; and a horse and pony showing day at Gransha.
Positive vibes at Ardnacashel dressage
Sunday’s (January 26) dressage results from Ardnacashel Equestrian, Comber, showed strong competition, highlighting the hard work of the participants and the progress in the dressage community.
Zara gallops ahead in Flexi Eventing League
Storm Éowyn certainly created havoc all around the entirety of our beautiful island and the power of his mighty breath had repercussions for the third leg of the Baileys Horse Feeds Flexi Eventing.
New Year dressage goes down a treat at Knockagh
A New Year Dressage day was held at Knockagh View Equestrian Centre, Greenisland on Saturday, January 25. Organisers would like to extend their thanks to everyone who supported the show and congratulations to everyone who picked up their qualifiers for the Pony Club Spring Festival!
Sun shines for Gransha Showing Show
Gransha Equestrian Centre, Bangor, played host to a horse and pony showing day on Saturday, January 25. It was a beautiful sunny, calm day, which was much needed after Storm Eowyn, which battered Northern Ireland the previous day! Thankfully, Doreen Johnston came armed with her generator as like many parts, Gransha was still without power! A strong coff…
