Straight from the Horse's Mouth: Will Glendinning

Episode 33

Hello and welcome to the 33rd Straight from the Horse’s Mouth podcast on Horse and Field!

It has been a while since I recorded a podcast interview, as life kind of got in the way… But there is certainly no shortage of interesting local equestrian folks to chat to, so I am delighted to be ‘back in the saddle’, so to speak, with my latest offering!

Will and his current mount ‘Coco’ competing in a working hunter class at Kilkeel Show.

I have known of Will Glendinning for several years, through his involvement with Warrenpoint and District Riding Club and Newry Show’s equestrian section (as part of his roles, Will the very important task of sending reports and results to the press, so that the relevant people got their names in the paper!), but as with so many in the equine world, Will has numerous other strings to his bow… In fact, he has recently written and just launched his first book - Life in the Midstream. The story is based on Will’s memories of life in South Armagh during the Troubles, or the conflict, as Will refers to it.

Will and ‘Blue’ placed fourth in a working hunter class at Warrenpoint Silver Show.

Will and I had a great chat about his horsey background and his move and subsequent career in Belfast, prior to moving back to his South Armagh roots and getting back into horses through his daughter.

Alongside writing his book, Will is still riding horses in his 70s and hopes to continue for years to come. He has even started a riding club!

Will and ‘Blue’ took first place in the 90cm class at Warrenpoint jumping league.

Will has enjoyed show jumping, eventing and working hunter over the years and is now concentrating more on dressage.

If you are seeking a Christmas gift for that ‘hard to buy for’ someone, Life in the Midstream could be a good option!

I wish Will every success with his book and I wish everyone listening a peaceful Christmas and a positive New Year!

I hope you enjoy our chat!
