Successful day for Ciara and 'Carneyhaugh Talisman' at Hagans Croft
Penultimate week of Working Hunter league sees tough competition
After a few days of consistent rain, Hagans Croft Equestrian was delighted that they were able to go ahead with the fourth week of their five-week Working Hunter league on Saturday, April 19. The main arena was up to the test and so were the horses and riders that turned up to jump the course of nine rustic fences. Each week the course has been built slightly more challenging and this week was no different, with a one-stride double leading to a three-stride related distance fence.
The day belonged to Ciara Collins and 'Carneyhaugh Talisman', who won the 90cm and 1m classes and went into the Championship show alongside a strong line up of horses, who achieved first and second placings across all the 60cm to 1m classes on the day.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
The championship show is judged as a new class and, with a couple of competitors striking off on the wrong leg and not showing extension within the gallop, judge Julie Donaghy Simpson awarded champion to Ciara Collins and 'Carneyhaugh Talisman' for their foot-perfect performance. Reserve Champion Horse went to Sarah Moore and 'The Newtown Babe'. This is a great result for both girls, as they set their sights on heading to the Northern Ireland Festival.
After the lunch break, it was the turn of the ponies. Jocelyn Hutchinson and 'Rhydyfel Starburst' jumped a beautiful clear in the 60cm class, earning a score of 93/100. The pair went into a strong championship show and received Reserve Champion Pony on the day.
Amelia Wheeler and 'Lisnahall Miss Toffee' won the 90cm class with a finishing score of 89/100, the pair went on to be awarded the accolade of Champion Pony on the day. Congratulations to all those who came home with rosettes on the day. Hagans Croft would like to remind you all that there is just one more week of this league to achieve a qualification for the Northern Ireland Festival. Nevertheless, the course Working Hunter course is open for schooling and is a great course to prepare horses for events like Balmoral and further afield.

Hagans Croft would like to thank everyone who supported the fourth week of their five-week Working Hunter league and NIF Qualifiers. Thanks are extended to judge Julie Donaghy Simpson, scribe Katie for making the event run so smoothly.
