Sunshine, showers and great show jumping at Connell Hill Training Show

Competitors shine across classes from 50cm up to 1.10m

The Training Show at Connell Hill, Randalstown on Saturday saw a great start to the morning from Templepatrick rider Lizzy Taylor, who rode her pony ‘Chester’ up into first place in the opening three classes of the day. There was another lovely performance by Noel McKee, who partnered his four-year-old mount ‘Charlie’ to a clear in the 60cm class.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:

The 70cm proved a popular class, with all riders on double clears rounds - including Lizzy Taylor competing ‘Chester’, Sarah Bates on ‘Charlie’, Katie Surgeoner on ‘Prince’, Annabel Mason on ‘Harry’ and Loisa Clancy on ‘Tessa’.

There was some great talent on show in the 80cm class, with very competitive riding from Abbie Wylie on Queenie, Loisa Clancy on Tessa and Katie Surgenor on her pony Price.

Between the showers, competitors in the 90cm class were not deterred by the weather and saw plenty of action with double clears all round!

The final class of the day saw Robert Newell earn himself first place in the 1.10m on his two mounts, ‘Pippin’ and ‘Murphy’, followed very closely by a talented David Taylor riding ‘Freddie’.

Very well done to all competitors who took part.

Training shows continue every Saturday morning throughout July and August at Connell Hill, starting at 10am with classes from cross-poles (assisted and unassisted) all the way up to 1.30m. There is always a friendly atmosphere and everyone is very welcome.

Connell Hill is an excellent venue and first-class facility to school round on a Saturday morning, with jumping classes to suit all levels. Located just outside Antrim, Connell Hill is accessible just off the main motorways and thoroughfares.

Entries are taken on the day.
