Talent on display at Meadows' Spring Championships
Fantastic turnout for three days of top-class show jumping at Lurgan venue
The Meadows Equestrian Centre in Lurgan held their Spring Championships including the MEC Young Horse Challenge Finals, DAFM Studbook Series and National Grand Prix, over the weekend of April 25 to 27. There was a fantastic turnout over the three days and some very talented combinations put on a display of top-class jumping.
The highlight of the weekend was Sunday’s Premier Performance National Grand Prix and it was brilliant to see Jonathan Smyth return to top form following an injury last year to win the class on board Noletta Smyth and Roy Craig’s ‘Mulvin Lights Out’. David Campbell’s ‘Derryinver Truffle’ was ridden in to the runner-up position by Catherine Thornton, followed by Dermott Lennon on his own and Gerry Marron’s ‘Kinmar Right On Time’ in third.

The Six-year-old class was won by Emma Jackson riding Roy Shields’s ‘Rockrimmon Legacy’, while the Seven-year-old win went to Shane O'Reilly on board Brian McConville’s ‘Derena Something Special’.

Shane was obviously on a roll and also won the 1.30m Grand Prix, this time riding ‘BWE Special Rose’, also owned by Brian McConville. Meanwhile, the 90cm and 1m classes both saw an impressive number of clear rounds, with the 1.10m win going to Tegan White McMorrow on her own ‘Peregrine Point’ and the 1.20m going to Danni Jennings on her own ‘Super Star’.
