TGCA back with a bang at Winter Woolies Finale
Classes for full- and part-bred gypsy cobs get a great response at Gransha
Sunday, April 14 saw the return of the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association (TGCA) classes at Winter Woolies, hosted at Gransha Equestrian Centre, Bangor. After the huge success of last year’s show, the TGCA ran classes for both Full- and Part-Bred Gypsy Cobs.
Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
First to the ring were the Youngstock and let’s just say that the feathers were flying! There may have been a breeze across the ring, but the Youngstock did not disappoint, with many beautifully turned out, competing in record numbers! The Quest Youngstock champion and Reserve was taken by father and daughter team, Neil and Brooke Erskine with ‘Applejack’ and ‘Lady Moorestown’.
Next was the turn of the senior cobs. Sara McComb’s ‘Back 2 Black’ took first place in both the Solid Colour In-hand and Over 14.2hh ridden classes. The Under 14.2hh saw the debut of Sophie Browne’s ‘Mr Vincent’ into ridden showing. One of the biggest highlights from the day came from this class.
Lily Muir cheering her cob ‘Rocky’ on, flying around the ring in their gallop section of their individual show piece, what a great team! The senior quest championship went to Sara McComb’s ‘Back 2 Black’ and Reserve to Victoria Gardenier’s ‘Baligons Blagdon’.
A new class from the last TGCA show at Winter Woolies is the ever-popular Part-Bred class. This allows any horse or pony that has one parent being a full traditional gypsy cob to compete. All colours, ages and types competed, with ‘Fred’s Dream’ and Terry McSpadden taking the Go For Glory Championship and Amelia Wheeler with ‘Midnight Minty’ taking the Reserve championship.
The Junior section is always a highly contested class, with all ages competing. It was great to see this, as they are the future of the discipline. With both riding and in-hand classes, it was a tight competition, however, the junior champion was Amelia Wheeler and ‘Midnight Minty, with Vogue Best and ‘Magic’ taking the reserve spot. Well done to all!
Finally was the Winter Woolies Supreme, which went to Sara McComb’s ‘Back 2 Black’ and Reserve to Terry McSpadden and ‘Fred’s Dream’.
A big thank you to Paul Hart for judging and the whole team at Winter Woolies for a successful day. The next TGCA classes will be running at Saintfield Show on June 15 and then to Enniskillen Horse and Pony Show on June 23.
