Tori victorious at The Meadows

SJI horse and pony classes ran alongside the unregistered spring league at Lurgan venue

It was a busy weekend at The Meadows Equestrian Centre, Lurgan, with SJI and unregistered show jumping on Saturday, March 15, followed by St Patrick’s Inter-schools’ show jumping on Sunday, March 16.

On Saturday, both horses and ponies were catered for in the registered classes, with lots of talented combinations out to show their talents and clock up points for their clear rounds.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:

Horse classes ran from 90cm up to 1.30m, with multiple clear rounds being recorded in the 90cm and 1m classes. Ellie McDowell rode into the top spot in the 1.10m class with Colin McDowell’s ‘Vanderbitt’, while Emma Jackson rode her own ‘Kylestone Cashel’ to win the 1.20m class.

Victory in the 1.30m class went to Tori Dunn on her own ‘Z Seven Amour’, followed in second place by Robert Russell riding Jane Allen Collins’s Lougherne After Dark.

The SJI pony classes ran from 128 50cm up to 148 1m, with some very speedy rounds of jumping being ridden! The full results are listed below, but a few competitors that deserve a mention are Tim Morton on Joanne Morton’s ‘Telynau Francisco’ and Lola Gallagher on Ronan Gallagher’s ‘Tyrllawn Maseratti’, who shared the 128 70cm class; Medb Kinney who rode Ronnoco Jump’s ‘Solea’ to win the 138 90cm class and Oliver Kinnear on Sonya Kinnear’s ‘Atletico Madrid’; Eloise Trainor on Marie-Therese Trainor’s ‘Corballa Dun Peter’ and Zoe Mellett on Martin Mellett’s ‘Josefina’, who shared the 148 1m class.

Unregistered classes continue to be popular and ran from cross-poles right up to 1.20m; again some super rounds of jumping were witnessed!

This weekend will see the Unregistered league (cross-poles up to 1.30m) continue, alongside the SJI Horse classes (80cm up to 1.30m).
