Tough competition at 18th Northern Ireland Festival
Accomplished combinations make their presence felt at Cavan
The 18th Northern Ireland Festival, billed as ‘Ireland's Largest Horse and Pony Show’, was held at Cavan Equestrian Centre over the weekend of April 26 to 28. There was much excitement in the run up to the show, with qualifiers being held all over the country since last summer for the various horse and pony working hunter classes and those who qualified were keen to make the journey to Cavan to compete! Of course, the non-qualification classes also attracted a great entry, with some very accomplished combinations making their presence felt. A lot of hard work and determination was evident as competitors, turned out to perfection, contested the multitude of classes on offer.

Congratulations must go to all those who took part - the busy atmosphere with multiple classes going on at once is a real test for horses and ponies (and riders!) so early in the season, but is such great experience for all. Special congratulations to all those who came home with ribbons, or better yet, sashes from NIF - what an achievement against such tough competition!
It is not possible to mention everyone individually, but a few names that should be noted for the season ahead are those that won the six Supreme Championships of the show. Casey-Lee Millar rode ‘Manorlea Calipo’ to win the Mini Novice Champion of Champions title, while Nigel Molloy won the Novice Supreme Championship. The Mini Pony Supreme Championship went to CJ Greene on ‘Woodroyd Go Go Girl’; Polly Coles and ‘Bloomfield Vallhala’ won the Ridden Horse Supreme Championship and Anthea Steele rode ‘Wikners Gryffindor’ to claim the Ridden Pony Supreme Championship. The Festival Supreme Working Hunter Championship went to Aoibhinn Ruane riding Dartans Atom Man.
NIF did not run in-hand classes this year, but even so, there were a huge number of classes on the schedule. As such, please note that the results are only the first two in each class.
