Working Hunter Series attracts increased entries at Lusk's
Second of the 2025 winter/spring series proves popular *extra photos added!*
Lusk Equestrian, near Lisburn, held the second of their 2025 winter/spring Working Hunter Series and, with increased numbers, the show started promptly at 10am under the direction of Fran Warden, who prides herself in keeping the classes running to time.
The new inclusion of Class 1a 40/50cm has attracted great support and it’s wonderful to see the stars of the future having their first attempt at equestrian competition. The winner on the day was Myia Latto and ‘Calpo’, but the first four were only points apart, but it was lovely to see all in the class come in for a prize.
The second class, 60cm, produced a clear winner, Pippa Leathem on ‘Flash Harry’, who had the benefit of her run in the first class.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
The 70cm, as usual, was highly competitive, with local girl Hannah Trimble from Moss Road, Drumbo, two points ahead of Sophie Cowan on ‘Major Magee’ to take the first place.
The young horse class was won by Lucy McIlroy on her five-year-old gelding ‘Bobby’, who went on to take third place in the 90cm class.
Lusk’s continue to support the Traditional Irish Horse class, which was won by Leanna Rose Devlin on ‘Jo’.
Lily Murphy won the 143cm pony class on her new acquisition, ‘Combertown Coda’ and the 80cm class produced a tie for first place, between Olivia Rodgers on ‘Lola’ and Heather Steele on ‘Novanjo’.

The 80cm upwards were all qualifiers for the NIF in Cavan. Kate McLoughlin produced another stylish round on her smart grey ‘Cooley’ to win the 90cm class, ahead of Jayne Moore on ‘CSF Tia’.
The 1m and 1.10m were full up to size and proved difficult for riders to get round the 12-fence course clear.
Judges on the day were David Lyons (conformation) and Sandra Hamilton (the jumping efforts).
The next Working Hunter show is on Sunday, March 30 and, as usual, entries to Sarah on 07840 117132.
