Working Hunter wonder at Causeway and Glens show
Horse and pony competitors catered for at RDA Causeway Coast Arena
Causeway and Glens Riding Club ran a very sunny and successful Working Hunter on Saturday, April 12 at RDA Causeway Coast Arena, Coleraine. Competitors took on a testing track designed by William Brown.
Gillian Kearney kindly gave her time to judge and Rebecca Sim scribed, starting the day with the pony section. Coralie Brolly with ‘Bunbury Southfort’ took home the first red ribbon of the day, with a well-deserved win in the cross-poles class, with Florence Wallace on ‘Storm’ taking second place.

Hello and welcome to Horse&Field. Our aim is to support local, grass roots equestrian enthusiasts and competitors and keep you all informed of what’s happening in the horsey world, as well as covering all things agricultural. If you haven’t already subscribed you can do so below:
It was Caroline Wallace and the ever-reliable ‘Keenaught Sandy Gold’, who took the win in the 50cm and Faith Lindsay on her Connemara ‘Sweetwall Zoe’ took second. Caroline and ‘Keenaught Sandy Gold’ took second place in the 60cm class, this time the winner was Toby Callion and ‘PDS Lucky Lady’.
Lola Gallagher and ‘Highthyme Miss Magee’ took a win in the 75cm class, qualifying for the NIF Cradle Stakes class. The 70cm class saw two young Connemara ponies learning the ropes and impressing the judges with close scores, but it was Holly Logan on ‘Tigger’ who had the edge taking top spot and in second was ‘Garvagh Daisey’, ridden by Lucy Donaghy.

Coralie Brolly was back in the ring in the NIF Starter Stakes qualifier, where she took home the red rosette, this time on ‘Linsfort Sunny Boy’ and Lola Gallagher qualified her second pony ‘Tyrllawn Maseratti’. with a second placing.
Sarah Allen with ‘Cooladawson Realta Mor’ took the win in the 80cm class, with Faith Lindsay back in the ring this time taking second place with ‘Fendi’. Faith Lindsay again took second place with ‘Fendi’ in the 90cm class and Sarah, this time with ‘Barora Gwen’, a Connemara-cross, taking the win. To close the pony section, Karuna Gourley on ‘Jim’ took the win and qualified for the 143cm class at NIF in the 1m class.
The judge had a difficult decision to make with a very impressive championship class, but it was Sarah Allen who took the championship win with ‘Barora Gwen’ and in reserve Coralie Brolly and ‘Linsfort Sunny Boy’.
The weather continued to hold for the horse section, this time the judge was Lisa O’Connor and scribe was Suzanne Donaghy. Kim Murphy on ‘Teddy’ took a well-deserved win in the 60cm class to kick off the horse section and Frankie Kealey placed second with the four-year-old ‘Aisling’. ‘Aisling’ took another second place in the 70cm class, but took the top spot in the NIF Four-year-old qualifier section, with Frankie Kealey in the saddle. But it was Lindsay Gault on ‘Winston’ who took home the red rosette as the overall winner in a big 70cm class.
The 80cm class saw a good turnout of horses, this time Chloe Connon with ‘Edenagor Daisy’ took the top spot, with Lucy Donaghy on ‘Lilah’ in second place.
The stile with the white gate proved quite tricky and Lucy had the only clear round in the 90cm class, so it was a well-deserved win again with her lovely coloured horse ‘Lilah’ and in second place was Frankie Kealey riding ‘Lady’.

Frankie had a busy day, swiftly changing over to her own horse ‘Dan’ and taking the win in the 1m class with the only clear round. Rebecca Sim placed second with ‘Queen of Carrickadawson’.
To complete the NIF classes, Frankie was in the ring again on ‘Dan’ and took the top spot in the 1.10m. Another fabulous championship line-up made for more difficult decisions for the judge. But it was Chloe Connon, the champion from the previous week with the magnificent ‘Edenagor Daisy’, who again was crowned champion horse, with Frankie and the handsome ‘Dan’ in reserve.

The organisers would like to thank everyone that helped to run this show. Thanks to Awardboard rosettes and Liz Brown’s Sweet Sensations for the prizes. Caitlin Munnis Photography has some fantastic photos, so check them out on her facebook page.
