Equine excitement for the year ahead
Local reports, results and pics highlight promising combinations
Hi folks,
Well, suddenly we find ourselves halfway through January…! How on earth did that happen?
At least the weather is a bit more settled this week - the cold spell was indeed short-lived, as I had hoped last week, which should hopefully allow the numerous activities in the equine calendar to go ahead - take a look at the Horse&Field calendar to see what’s on near you. Some events scheduled for last weekend had to be cancelled or postponed due to the icy conditions in the preceding days.

There was great excitement at The Meadows Equestrian Centre in Lurgan last Saturday, as the Flexi Eventing Series got underway, albeit with a slightly later start than planned to allow any early frost to clear. This series has so many positives… Not only is it a great introduction to the three phases of eventing, for seasoned and inexperienced competitors alike, but it almost acts as a countdown to spring! Some combinations were unable to make the journey to compete last Saturday, so no doubt it will be a busy place this weekend.
Looking ahead:

This Horse&Field newsletter brings you the latest equine news, as well as reports, results and pictures from local competitions over the past week or so, including the first week of the Flexi Eventing Series at The Meadows; Arena Eventing and Show Jumping including Pony Club qualifiers at Ardnacashel; and a flashback to the Christmas Cracker Show at Laurel View.
Flexi Eventing Series gets underway at The Meadows
The Baileys Horse Feeds Flexi Eventing Series for 2025 is officially up and running!
Great attendance at Ardnacashel
Another great attendance graced Ardnacashel Equestrian, Comber on Sunday, January 12, as they held the second of their Arena Eventing and Show Jumping competitions.
Festive flashback to Laurel View Christmas Cracker
December at Laurel View saw so many Christmas activities that Santa even took up residence in the stables for a while. The Christmas Cracker Show on Sunday, December 15 was the last of the festive-themed competitions, so there was no shortage of tinsel in manes and tails and the Christmas jumpers got another outing, all adding to the festive fun.
