Storm carnage won't deter equine enthusiasts
Recent reports, results and photos from local equestrian events
Hello everyone,
Another week, another weather warning… And, oh my goodness, this one seems to have caused carnage! There are trees and fences down everywhere, roofs have been blown off buildings, roads have been blocked and many people are without power (including me… In fact, I am typing this by torchlight with a rather makeshift internet connection!).
My thoughts and prayers are with anyone who has sustained damage to their home or premises… I do hope you get things resolved quickly. For those of us with horses, all of these issues have an impact, particularly in relation to exercising our equine friends - local roads may impassable whilst hacking and some activities may be cancelled or postponed. Please check the Horse&Field calendar for further details. Wherever you go this weekend, please stay safe!

This Horse&Field newsletter brings you the latest equine news, as well as reports, results and pictures from local competitions and events over the past week or so, including the last of the Arena Eventing and Show Jumping series at Ardnacashel; the Working Hunter Show at Danescroft; week two of the Flexi Eventing Series; the Antrim Chase meeting at Kilwaughter; the latest leg of the show jumping league at Ecclesville; the Eventing Ireland AGM; and the SJI Ulster Region Horse Awards.
Good weather, good people and good horses and ponies at Ardnacashel
A lovely, relaxing day was had by all on Sunday, January 19, as Ardnacashel Equestrian, Comber held the last of their Winter Arena Eventing and Show jumping.
Danescroft kicks off 2025 with Working Hunter show
It was a lovely day for the Working Hunter Day at Danescroft Equestrian, Lisburn on Sunday for the first of their many shows in 2025. The morning saw the horses present in front of judge, Alex Spencer.
Katie and ‘Water Paint’ take early lead in Flexi Eventing series
It was another very busy day for the second leg of the Baileys Horse Feeds Flexi Eventing Series, where points mean prizes. Once again, large dressage entries meant the provision of three arenas, as well as show jumping and cross-country, which is quite some spectacle for a training event and certainly provided plenty of activity for everyone.
Ecclesville’s Show jumping League resumes
Normal service resumed at Ecclesville’s Show jumping League on Friday evening, after the inclement weather forced the cancellation of the Show scheduled for the week before. The knock-on effect of this change also means the Final will be held on Sunday, February 9, starting at 10am.
Eventing Ireland Northern Region looks forward to the year ahead
On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Eventing Ireland Northern Region held their AGM at Gourley’s in Ballygowan, County Down. As always, the evening was well supported by both members and friends. There were many faces in attendance, who had been at the Amateur and Grassroots seminar, held at the Meadows Equestrian Centre the night before!
Successes celebrated at SJI Ulster Region Horse Awards
The Ulster Region of Show Jumping Ireland held their Horse Awards Evening for 2024 at Corick House Hotel and Spa in Clogher on Saturday, January 11.
