Straight from the Horse's Mouth: Victoria Clarke Mullen

Episode 11

Hello and welcome to the 11th Straight from the Horse's Mouth podcast on Horse and Field!

For many years, I have been putting Victoria Clarke's name in the results… For show jumping, eventing, working hunter, you name it! She is one of those multi-talented riders, who has a real knack of getting the best from the horses she rides. Victoria is from Cloughey on the Ards Peninsula and she is now married. Her new surname is Mullen, although to avoid confusion, she sometimes uses Clarke Mullen - just so you know who we're speaking to.

I was really intrigued to find out more about how and when her riding career began and at what point she decided to make horses her full-time career.

Since she began riding professionally, Victoria has had some well-known and highly respected clients, including Howard Whelan and Richard Iggulden, among others and she clearly gets the results they are hoping for, whether at home with young horses or in the show ring when they are a little bit older!

Victoria has recently added another string to her bow, by becoming a judge. This involved a time-consuming process of an exam, a test of her riding ability across a variety of horses and then judging under the supervision of more experienced judges at three shows before being able to judge by herself. The first show she judged at herself was Royal Cornwall, which she says was an incredible experience - ‘like Balmoral on steroids’!

I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did!

If you would like to make contact with Victoria, you can find her on Facebook under Victoria Clarke Equestrian or Victoria Clarke Mullen or, if you prefer to give her a ring, her number is 07835 772878.
