Long summer days mean lots of equine fun
Reports, results, photos and news from the local equestrian world
Hi folks,
Another week has passed and, with it, the longest day of the year… And, to be fair, with the number of equine activities that have been going on, it’s just as well the days were long - it’s been rather busy!
Last weekend was once again sunny, as evidenced by the fabulous photos from many of the shows that were on… Including Saintfield Show, Lusk’s, Portmore, the Meadows, Connell Hill and more, where many competitors took the opportunity to ride without their jackets, due to the heat… But this newsletter also brings results and photos from Killyleagh Show the previous week, which was a totally different kettle of fish, when full length waterproof coats and wellies were the order of the day and the show organisers did a great job in drying out as many scoresheets as they could, in order to send results through!

The weekend ahead sees Newry Show being held, as well as Tamniarn Annual Charity Gymkhana, a Summer Festival at Knockagh View, a three-day SJI horse show at Portmore and an Eventing Ireland Northern Region two-phase event at Tullylish… And much more!
The Horse&Field calendar gives details of these events and many others - right up until the end of the year. It’s worth a look to help you plan your schedule!
This Horse&Field newsletter brings you the latest equine news, as well as reports, results and pictures from local competitions and events over the past week or so, including the 80th Saintfield Show; the show jumping series at Lusk’s; SJI Horse Show at Portmore; week one of Strule Valley Riding Club’s show jumping league; week one of the Golden Ticket league at Ardnacashel; show jumping at The Meadows; the Training Show at Connell Hill; Killyleagh Show; details of BHS Gold members’ pleasure rides at Mount Stewart; BHS camp with Eric Smiley FBHS; and another with Mark Robinson BHSI and Brendan Bergin BHSI; details on show jumping at Newry Show and also at Otterglen Equestrian; SJI horse jumping at Connell Hill; and the first-ever Working Equitation Show in Ireland… at Laurel View! There is also news of a rebrand of a well-known supplement.
